Jet Set Baby

So I just realized I will be out of town for the next FIVE CONSECUTIVE WEEKENDS! Our baby will certainly be worldly before she is even born.

This weekend I am off to Baltimore for a trade show and to visit my family (who will be meeting me in Baltimore and the DC area).

I am feeling MUCH better than the last trade show I was at (when I was only 8 or 9 weeks pregnant and just getting started with my almost 3 month long stint of morning sickness). I bought a new pair of comfy dress shoes...I hope they stay comfy during a full day at the trade show.

Sounds like it will be cool and rainy...perfect for early nights in a king sized bed and fluffy robe!

The 100

We are finally in our last 100 days before baby arrives! Today is 99 days until due date.

Our crib came in this weekend, so Ryan got that all set up. It's a convertible crib, so it turns into a toddler bed and also becomes a full sized headboard. It also has a drop-side, so we've been sure to test it out for security and ease of use (I have found that I can easily use it one-handed!). We even got the crib mattress, and it fits very perfectly.

Next up will be the dresser/changer and the glider rocker. We also need to hang our curtain rods so we can measure for window treatments. We will be re-purposing our existing curtain rod (that was used in Ryan's previous "man-room") for a valance and using a smaller cafe rod beneath it for long panels to block out light. I'm hoping this baby will enjoy the dark and get lots of sleep (because Mama needs her rest).

Not Just Fat

I've finally hit the stage of my pregnancy when complete strangers feel comfortable bringing up my pregnancy. Hey, I'm not just fat-looking anymore!

When Ryan and I went to Target this past weekend (to buy a crib, which ended up unsuccessful), our checkout lady ask me when I was due. I gladly told her our due date, but Ryan teased me that I should have said "I don't know what you're talking about" to make her feel uncomfortable.

Then at church on Sunday the little girl sitting in front of me asked if I had a baby "in there." Assuming she meant my tummy, I told her yes and we talked for a little bit about babies. I even let her feel my stomach.

I'm so glad to be out of the fat stage...hopefully everyone can tell I am pregnant. :)

You must have been a beautiful baby...

I don't know where I came up with this idea, but I wanted to see if there was a feature on the Internet that would combine mine and Ryan's faces to show us what our baby will look like. Well, after a quick Google search, I found the appropriate web tool to complete this application.

Here's what baby Sugar and Spice Fugler will look like:

OK, the picture is a little weird, but overall I think the baby will have nice features! Haha!

What do you think?

Cribs

Ryan and I were so excited to buy a crib and get it set up this weekend. We made plans, cleaned out the "nursery," and went out to lunch before heading to the Super Target to make our big purchase. We had decided on a very simple espresso-colored crib that can convert into a toddler bed and eventually a full-sized bed so our baby can have this bed for basically her entire life (or at least her entire life under our roof).

Once we made it to the baby section of Super Target however, our plans were thwarted. Apparently Super Target still displays the model of the crib but they no longer carry that model in stores (online only). Whaaa?? You mean we don't get our crib today? Frustrated, Ryan and I hurriedly said thanks anyway and left the store. When we got home, I checked the Target and Babies R Us websites. Babies R Us also carries the crib actually had it listed for a cheaper price (well, it was 11 cents cheaper but cheaper none the less).

I called our local Babies R Us, and while they didn't have the crib in stock they did say they could order it from their warehouse to the store...no delivery/shipping costs. We decided to go with this option, so the crib should arrive in 7-14 days. I'm hoping it gets in sometime this week so we can set it up this weekend...but we will just have to wait and see.

Ryan and I have been keeping busy now that I am in full swing in my 2nd trimester. Since I've been feeling good, we have been taking advantage of this and doing lots of fun things this summer. This week we went to 2 Rockies games - the Cubs game with Ryan's dad and the Pirates game with Vanessa and Josh (http://youmustberoad-trippin.blogspot.com/).

The pictures above are from the Rockies v Cubs game. I don't have a nice Rockies hat, so I wore my Cubs hat (even though I cheered for the Rockies this time around). I wanted to wear my Tulo t-shirt, but it just doesn't fit anymore. We also had lunch twice this week on the Lodo's rooftop (with great view of the ballpark).

Also, while Vanessa and Josh were staying with us we made sure to plan plenty of fun Denver/Colorado activities.

Vanessa and Josh are now off to continue their nation-wide road trip...but it was so fun having them visit Colorado (even if I will need to be in bed for the entire weekend to catch up on my sleep!). Ryan and I wish they were moving to Colorado instead of Connecticut. Maybe in a few years... ;)

24 Weeks!

We are officially 24 weeks into our pregnancy. Baby Sugar and Spice is almost a foot long! That's about the size of an ear of corn.

The baby's taste buds may also be functioning now too, so she might be able to get a taste of the Star Crunch treats I have been eating!

I've been feeling more fatigued lately, so I'm really trying to stick with an early bed time. It's just so hard when there are so many fun nighttime things to do in the summertime. Ryan and I will be joining our friends/house guests for Films on the Rocks at Red Rocks tonight (after I lead my Junior League meeting/training after work). Looks like it will be a late night, so my head will be hitting the pillow as soon as I arrive home tonight.

Another midwife visit

Today Ryan and I went in for our 23/24 week midwife visit. At this visit they did a blood glucose test to check for gestational diabetes. I had to drink a very sugary drink and then they drew about 5 vials of my blood. Not fun! I chose the "cola" flavored drink. It was carbonated, and after my 5th 1 oz shot of it (I was supposed to drink 5 ounces) I burped up a mouthful of foam! Oops, hope I held down the full 5 oz!

We won't get results today...and I was told no news is good news.

Also, I got my weight checked again today, and it looks like I have gained exactly 11 lbs since my first appointment. The midwife said I am right on target, and I will continue to gain 3/4-1 lb a week from now on. Since I was on the small side at the beginning of my pregnancy, apparently I am ok to gain anywhere between 28-40 lbs! Wow, I can't imagine gaining weight that quickly...but I'm sure it will happen since the baby is going to have to grow from a 1 lb mango to a 7-ish lb big baby girl in the next 16 weeks or so.

Such is Mango

Yesterday we officially hit the 23 week mark (5 and 3/4 months). Baby weighs approximately 1 lb and is about the same size/weight of a large mango.

Here are a few new 5 month belly pics:

Humphrey wants to know what all the fuss is about.

Tight fitting shirts really show off the belly!

It's growing...

Yesterday (in this outfit) was one of the first days that people really noticed that I was pregnant...and didn't hesitate to say I was pregnant without skirting the issue. Apparently I need to wear tight clothes to look pregnant and not like I'm just gaining a few pounds.

For the Under-Stuffed!

Apparently, babies need a lot of stuff! At least that's what the baby stores want you to believe so you will register for lots of things...and hopefully your friends and family will make lots of purchases in their store for your baby.

This week I spent too many hours at Babies R Us and Target (in store and online) registering for baby necessities and wants. Luckily, I had the help of the trusty Baby Bargains book, which helped me decide which brands and models to sign up for. This book also told me which products were useless, unnecessary and unsafe. Guess I don't need that door jumper or bath seat (bath seat??!) after all!

Honestly, I can't wait to get our little townhome filled with lots of cute baby items. Ryan and I are planning to buy nursery furniture very soon (after I get the nursery painted this weekend). We know we will also need a stroller/car seat set and a Pack n Play (play yard) because we will use the bassinet in our bedroom during those first few months for baby's sleeping situation. Of course the baby will also need clothes, diapers, etc. But what about those extras like bouncers and play mats that other mommies have told me they could not live without? Will our little Sugar and Spice love them too? I can't wait to find out!

Making room for baby

This weekend, Ryan and I began the task of moving furniture around to make room for a baby to live in our 3rd bedroom. In order to turn this room into a nursery, we had to move Ryan's office downstairs, move Ryan's "man room" out of the 3rd bedroom, and reconfigure our upstairs "loft" into a multipurpose area.

Ryan took on the big task of putting together a brand new office desk for himself. While he worked on that, I put all of my pre-pregnancy clothes into storage containers not to be opened until after baby is born. I was surprised at how full our closet still is with only my maternity clothes, business suits (that I couldn't bear to fold up), and Ryan's clothes. Of course, we were storing half of our clothes and most of our coats in the room that will be the baby's nursery, so those were moved back into our closet or into the downstairs coat closet...and they are taking up a lot of room!

Now the baby's room is almost empty (with the exception of a large tv that we need to find a home for), and I will be ready to paint it next weekend! We have decided to keep our nursery pretty neutral so we can re-use decorations for future baby(ies). We plan to paint the room a light brown and decorate in brown, green and cream (with little pops of bright blue). We will incorporate some bird-themed items that we already have and give the room a nature-inspired feel. Can't wait to get started!

Also, I don't know if it was the recent decision to add a pop of blue to the nursery or some other factor...but I had the weirdest dream last night that I went in for a 2nd ultrasound and the sonographer announced that I was going to have a baby boy. I remember feeling so shocked because I am so prepared to have a baby girl come December. Of course, we'll be happy with a healthy and happy baby of any gender...but if we do end up having a boy, he'll certainly have a lot of girly stuff!
